Wet n Wild claims to be cruelty free and PETA certifies them as such. They made news in mid-2019 when it was discovered that they were selling products in mainland China, where aftermarket animal testing is required by law. Many web sites declared Wet n Wild no longer cruelty free. In 2014, China’s regulations changed such that non-special-use cosmetics (items like foundation, eyeshadow, lipstick, etc that do not make any “functional” claims) that are manufactured in China can be sold in China without animal testing. The Wet n Wild products sold in China are manufactured in China and fall under this set of regulations. After reviewing the regulations, I am comfortable considering Wet n Wild to be cruelty free, though I’m not a fan of how they handled the secrecy around their Chinese sales and the aftermath of it making the news.
